you and the six commandments of Adam
Beginning the Book of Genesis
Today we will talk about the meaning of the seven mitzvot, where they come from, what they reflect, why they are and not others, what is their origin
As is well known, Noah’s seven commandments are the six that Adam and Eve received in Eden plus the seventh that Noah added after the flood
The six are: idolatry, adultery, bloodshed, theft, justice, desecration of God’s name
What is their origin?
The Book of Genesis is Built According to the Six Commandments
The Ten Commandments were given openly. But a person’s six commandments must be revealed from the text.
And here is a wonder – the book of Genesis presents them through the story.
The book is made up of six distinct parts, each of which presents one of the six in exactly this order.
For this purpose I do not need to quote a great rabbi or some midrash, but take a pencil and write down the stories for yourself as they appear and see for yourself
Thus –
The story of creation – chapter 1 – presents man’s first mitzva – idolatry, when the Creator spoke in the plural
This is followed by the story of the Garden of Eden – and immediately upon the creation of the woman the Torah presents the prohibition of adultery
It is written: Therefore, a man should leave his father and mother and cling to his wife – the prohibition of adultery, the second mitzva of a man
Immediately after the expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Cain and kills Abel – bloodshed, which is man’s third commandment
And from there until Noah, the Torah presents stories of murder, theft, and robbery, such as the gangs of Tubal Cain, until Noah and the Flood.
The segment ends with Noah’s Rainbow Alliance presenting the laws of bloodshed. A clear segment.
Immediately after Noach comes a new segment about Avraham that revolves entirely around theft – the fourth mitzva of man. Seven stories, all of which revolve around different types of theft and kidnapping and in favor of legitimate ownership, Avraham calls on God to buy heaven and earth, my lord adonai , he refuses to share property with the king of Sedom, whom Avraham knows as the king of thieves (Midrash)
After Avraham come the stories of Yaakov – who seeks social justice in the family, in society, in the city. It is a mitzva of judgment, the fifth mitzva of a person
And after Yaakov – the story of Yosef’s sale by his brothers, which is the best example of the desecration of God’s name – Noah’s sixth mitzvah. And in contrast to it – the sanctification of God’s name
We will notice that all the heroes here are Noah’s sons
Thus, the book presents the six commandments of a person, from the beginning of the book to the end of the book
And more than this – in each passage, the Torah provides perfect information on the subject that you won’t find in one place
Moses wrote the book for the human race
. The Six Commandments are the platform on which the book of Genesis was written. It is hidden beneath the external story. Under the history.
And this is a true story, not dependent on interpretation or interpretation. Anyone can discover it with their own eyes.
I read the book and you wrote down the six commandments in front of me. They came out of the book.
While the Ten Commandments were given to Israel openly, the Six Commandments of Radam are revealed to mankind through the book.
First there was the platform of the mitzvot, and history was conducted according to them
What do we learn from the chain of stories in the book?
- There is an order for the mitzvot, who comes first to whom. This is important because there is a disagreement among the commentators about the correct order. Here the Torah presents the correct order according to its opinion
2 Humanity marches – falls – in a book from one mitzva to another. To teach us that this will be the case in history –
3 And this is true for every person. One who stumbles upon one mitzva shall immediately pursue the other according to the order in the Torah
Hence, this order is deeply rooted in our psychology.
A well-known example: the great Gasby. He became rich and proud, committed adultery with his ex-lover even though she was married, tried to murder her husband but murdered someone else, also tried to steal his property, and finally covered up the story from the authorities. In other words, he stumbled on the whole chain from one to the other. The book was so successful because order is ingrained in us
Second example: David, in all his strength and pride, commits adultery with Bat-Sheva and causes the death of her husband Uriah. The prophet accuses him of stealing the sheep of the poor
4 Hence, man himself is built according to this order of the commandments. Like the book of Genesis, there was first the platform, according to which man was created
Is this true?
The Creation of Man According to the Six Mitzvot
Let us look at chapter 1 of the creation of man. It is written: Let Usmake man in our image and in our likeness.
In contrast to other creatures, the Torah describes at length how man is constructed
Who is talking and to whom?
In the beginning, ELKM created: the attribute of justice, the judge, He created the world, and man – to stand in judgment.
Let’s talk a little about God and judgment
Why ELKM? Why Judgement?
It is true that the Creator wants to give all beings, including man, an abundance of goodness unconditionally and without judgment
As it will be on Shabbat. Pleasure, love and holiness and only very good
But when it comes to a person who has a strong ego and free choice, an abundance of infinite grace is destructive
Bread of kindness, shame on the recipient – if he has minimal pride
Example: David and Avshalom
Therefore, Rashi says that it arose in the thought of the Creator to create the world and man in judgment, in judgment
for a person to EARN the good according to the law, which is stable and just and not destructive
Therefore, the Creator, who has no name, ascended the throne of judgment, is called ELKM in Hebrew, and thus He created the Six Days – and placed every day in judgment
You can see this in chapter 1
The judgment of each day is according to the laws of nature that God has established
But for man, the law is built on a moral platform, of moral laws that God has established
As for the animals, it’s enough to be good
As for the person, he should be very good
Above animals and nature
To put a person on a fair trial, it is necessary to
Set of Moral Principles and Laws Derived from Them
A person is built to understand the principles and laws
That he has a free choice
And there is an appropriate court
First, the Creator established a set of moral principles. The Talmud says that He looked at the Torah and created man, that is, He saw the moral principles
According to them, man was created. The principles are: idolatry, incest, murder, theft, justice, and desecration of God’s name.
These laws will encompass all corners of human life on earth, in private life, in the family, in society
Second Stage – He Declare: We will make The Adam in our image and likeness
Rashi explains: He had a pattern of man in his head – the moral platform of the Six Principles – according to which he would build man to stand trial
The Torah describes what the Creator did
He made man – He did not create man by command like Adam, but he consulted – to whom?
Moses left it open. In other words, he consulted with every entity mentioned in the chapter
As the Talmud says, look at the Torah in chapter 1 and created man when he reigned in every being
He said to each of us, “We will make man in our image,” and thus He built man. There are six beings in the chapter, and against them are six consultations according to which He created six layers in man against the Six Moral Principles and the Six Laws
Thus – we will see for ourselves these authorities that are written in chapter 1
1 The Six Days—Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6—Man is the sum of the days, of evolution
It is an important gift for a person in his life on earth. But it is also a source of attraction to sin
2 He consulted the wisdom with which he created and planted it in the head of man. An important gift for man’s life on earth, but also a source of sin
3 He consulted with beauty and art—the spirit of God—and created a wonderful layer in man, a gift that would enrich his life but also serve as a source of sin
4 Consult with “you and I” and instill in man self-recognition, ego, a wonderful gift, but also an important source of sin
5 Consult with “be fruitful and multiply” – and plant in man a more powerful species than in nature, a gift that will push man to create and produce, but also a source of sin
6 He consulted with “Rado” – and instilled in man the instinct of power – a wonderful gift that pushes a person to make an impression and succeed, but a source of sin
ELKM cares for the creatures. He gives each creature the talents to live in its own habitat.
Similarly, every layer he planted in a person is an important gift for life on earth, but also a source of lust and sin
In other words, God says, “I have given you gifts to succeed, but do not use them against your friend and against me.”
In other words, do not transgress the six principles and laws – the prohibition of idolatry, incest, murder, theft, justice, and desecration of God’s name.
If you keep it, you will be rewarded with the judgment and you will get better than me in the law
Each layer creates the possibility of disinfection
The Six Days – From there will come to man lusts in nature, such as bloodshed, theft, territory.
Wisdom – Rebellion
Procreation – strong lust. Incest
Rule Over – a great lust for power, against it – laws
Ego – The Will to Rebel
Thus He built man for judgment. It would seem that there is everything that a person needs to stand up to judgment –
He Consulted the Attribute of Mercy
But, says Rashi, ELKM saw that it wouldn’t work
Just as infinite grace alone will not work, so will justice alone not work
This is because a person’s ego and pride are so great that a person will not obey his commandments. He will not accept upon himself the kingdom of God
This can be seen in the famous story about the angels who saw how God created man
According to Rashi, the angels noticed that God had changed His ways. Why do you speak in the plural?
Why do you reign in all the things in the chapter? After all, you are the Creator! Who will tell you what to do?
Second, aren’t you afraid of idolaters who will say that you have partners?
He said to them, “I take a risk and speak in the plural, in order to teach a person humility.”
From here we see that a person’s greatest obstacle is his ego. It is a blessing, but it is also a source of rebellion against the kingdom of God and the six mitzvot
If so, how will a person merit justice?
Therefore, ELKM turned to the attribute of mercy that governs Shabbat and said to her, “Let us be man, etc.”
If each individual attribute does not allow a person to stand trial, both together will allow it
The attribute of mercy will enable a person to repent and start anew
Indeed, says Rashi, the two virtues joined together like two cherubim, in agreement and love.
And together they built man, in Eden, unlike the rest of the creatures in the world
We see this from the end of the first day and the beginning of the Garden of Eden – on the day when YHVH ELKM made the earth and the heavens
And there, with the two attributes touching each other in love, they created man and gave him the six commandments
As it is written, “And He commanded him” – He gave man the six commandments (Talmud)
Each measure participated in the mitzvot from its own side
The commandments reflect not only ELKM but also YHVH
From WLKM point of view, there is something you should not do. On the part of YHVH , you must do kindness and holiness – without an explicit law.
Thus –
It is not enough to avoid transgressing idolatry on the part of ELKM, but it is also necessary to know and know YHVH without mistake
It is not enough to avoid transgressing adultery on the part of ELKM, it is necessary to protect the family, and to stay away from a conspiracy from the aspect of YHVH
It is not enough to avoid bloodshed on the part of ELKM, it is necessary to do and have mercy and prevent suffering from the aspects of YHVH, like Noach
It is not enough to avoid theft, it is necessary to do like Avraham – kindness without boundaries and without judgment
It is not enough to avoid injustice, courts must be built and justice must be imposed
It is not enough to refrain from desecrating God’s name, one must sanctify the name of Heaven – voluntarily for the children of Noah.
If a person walks this way — of the two attributes—he will not only be good in the eyes of ELKM, but also in the eyes of YHVH -meaning Very Good
In other words, it is very good in the eyes of the two Cherubs
And then he will also merit the good in this world unconditionally and without judgment
And he will also merit to enter the World to Come and Shabbat
Just like Noah, the best example. He went with God, and he liked Jehovah
This is the title of the book of Genesis, from then on man walks through history towards the end of the sixth day
Then he will examine whether he is ready to enter Shabbat
Let us remember that a person’s greatest weakness is his ego
The solution is humility and acceptance of the kingdom of heaven. And this will lead to the observance of the mitzvot
It is impossible to keep the seven Noahide commandments without first accepting the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore, a person’s six commandments are from a higher source. We are built according to them.
They are aimed at the deeper layers of a person’s psychology and his psyche.
They are good advice from the Creator who wants to influence us well – even in judgment. And even when we are pleasing to Jehovah like Noah
If a person asks, “Where are Noah’s seven commandments in the Torah?” Answer him – the entire book of Genesis is dedicated to this
And if your sons ask you, why don’t we concentrate on the Ten Commandments like everyone else?
For in the Seven Commandments, God speaks to Me. Every book of Genesis is directed at Me.
In the book of Genesis there is information that you don’t see in the Ten Commandments
This is how I can receive the blessing of a very good one.
